• Shuddering. A sign that you may need to replace the clutch is excessive shuddering when releasing the clutch pedal, even at low speeds. 
• Difficult to Change Gears. Another indicator that you may need to replace the clutch is when it is difficult to shift gears. You may hear a grating noise when the clutch doesn't release when pressing down on the pedal. 
• Grinding Sound. If there's a grinding or grating noise from the gearbox when using the clutch pedal, it is a possible sign of a worn release bearing. 
• Slippage. If the engine's RPM is more than it should for a specific speed, it is an indicator that the friction pad may have worn out.
